Tongue River Elementary School is located in Ranchester, Wyoming, which has a population of 737. The school was built in 1978, with an addition added in 1979. Students at our school come from the rural communities of Ranchester, Dayton, and Parkman. Tongue River Elementary School is a K-5, two section school, with 213 students and a class size of 8.9 as based on an average of students per all certified teachers. The average classroom size is 16 students. Sheridan County School District #1 has an alternative four-day school week with 148 days of student instructional contact per year. There are 999 contact hours with students as compared to the state requirement of 900 hours. This schedule reduces classroom interruptions and allows teachers more preparation time for students, to attend in-services, and to work on curriculum.
Extra curricular events are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays.
At T.R.E., frequently throughout the year, a special Friday activity program is offered. It includes activities such as holiday activities, guest speakers and other academic enrichment programs. Programs such as Poetry Club, Chess, and O.T.T.E.R. Reading Club are offered during the school week as additional enrichments.
Near the school is a facility called Tongue River Child’s Place. This non-profit daycare/pre-school organization which is funded by grants is under an advisory relationship with T.R.E. and the district.
